On Sunday, A 26-year-old Hiker named Gillian Tones drowned at Glacier National Park in Montana. She belongs from Pennsylvania.
She was swept over several small waterfalls, after slipping into fast-moving water, and got pinned underwater for several minutes before being rescued, stated by officials.
Meanwhile, Park rangers arrived on the tragic scene around 5:45 p.m. local time after receiving multiple 911 calls about 25 minutes prior. The bystanders, park rangers, and first responders tried their best to save her. But Gillian Toner didn’t regain her consciousness. Even a rescue helicopter was landed nearby at about 6:20 p.m. Despite all this, Gillian Toner was pronounced dead at about 7 p.m.
Public Information Officer, Gina Icenoggle, informed that Toner was hiking near St. Mary Falls and decided to venture down to Virginia Creek.
Witnesses stated that she slipped on slick rocks along the embankment and fell into the creek, which has strong water flow during this time of year due to snowmelt.
Tones was quickly swept up by the cold, fast-moving water and went over a series of smaller waterfalls,” the park service said. She was pinned underwater by a log for several minutes until fellow park visitors pulled her out, the park service added, thanking bystanders for their “heroic efforts.”
