U.S. President Joe Biden urged the American people to “dissent” by voting against Donald Trump in November, claiming that the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity created a “dangerous precedent” that may make presidents into monarchs.
Speaking calmly and clearly from the White House, Biden stated that the court ruling meant it was highly unlikely that Trump would face prosecution before the election on November 5th for his involvement in trying to have the results of the 2020 election overturned. He also cautioned that this may turn American presidents into monarchs.
In a historic decision that recognized for the first time any kind of presidential authority, the court determined that Trump may be prosecuted for private acts but not for any actions that were within his constitutional authority as president.
“The idea that there are no monarchs in America was the foundation of this country. Before the law, every one of us is equal. Nobody is above the law, ever. Not even the US president.” Reading off a teleprompter, Biden stated.
According to him, there are almost no restrictions on the powers of a president as a result of the court’s ruling.
“It’s a dangerous precedent because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by the law,” Biden stated. “The only limits will be self-imposed by the president alone.”
The 81-year-old Biden was speaking at the White House for the first time since his unsteady debate performance against Trump last week, which prompted demands that he resign as the Democratic
His words and demeanor are being closely examined for clues that he is capable of campaigning for reelection and leading the nation for four more years after he stammered during the debate in Atlanta.
Biden claimed to have supported leftist Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who expressed her fear for American democracy in her dissenting opinion in the 6-3 ruling.
“The American people will now have to carry out the actions that the court ought to have taken but chose not to. About the next presidential election in November, Biden stated, “The American people will render judgment on Donald Trump’s tenure.”
“I concur with Justice Sotomayor’s dissent today,” he stated. “The American people ought to object as well. I disagree. God bless every one of you. May God
Asked on Fox News about Biden’s remarks, House Speaker Mike Johnson called them “despicable” and “dangerous” and accused the president of “trying to undermine the Supreme Court.”
When it came to the Jan. 6, 2021, raid on the U.S. Capitol by Trump’s supporters, who had accepted his fraudulent claims that he had won the 2020 election, Biden, who is challenging Trump for reelection, has been extremely critical of his opponent’s behavior.
“Now, the individual who led that crowd to the US Capitol may be found guilty of a crime in connection with what transpired that day. Referring to Trump’s impending prosecution for inciting the disturbance, Biden stated, “The American people deserve an answer in the courts before the upcoming election.”
Before the election in November, according to Biden, the public has a right to know the outcome of that case.
“Now, because of today’s decision, that is highly, highly unlikely. It’s a terrible disservice to the people in this nation.”
