Prince William is taking action to claim homelessness in the UK by building more cost-effective homes on his Duchy of Cornwall estate. His Homewards project, set float last year, desires to end rough sleeping, sofa surfing, and sub-standard temporary housing. William is working with charity St Petrocs to provide twenty-four homes with support services in Cornwall and plans to deploy more housing projects overall on his estate, which spans twenty counties.
The Prince assures he must lead by example, given his rich position as Prince of Wales. His efforts align with the new Labour government’s focus on house building. William forced the need for collaboration and early intervention to prevent homelessness, saying, “We’ve got to make sure we don’t overlook them. Find families early enough and work with them.”
At a recent shift in Brixton, William spoke about the value of claiming homelessness, saying, “Homelessness is a complex societal issue and one that touches the lives of far too many people in our society. However, I truly believe that it can be ended.” He appreciated the work of local experts, charities, and authorities, saying, “So many people are doing excellent work and have been doing it for years and years. We want you to feel that this [Homewards] is a resource and support for you.”
William’s enterprise desires to motivate a movement to rescue homelessness and exhibit that it is not an inescapable part of society. He said, “I created Homewards because I wanted us to look at the issue of homelessness through a different lens: to inspire a movement to prevent people from ever experiencing homelessness in the 1st place.” With his commitment to building more budget homes and supporting those in need, Prince William is leading by example and working towards a future where homelessness is a thing of the past.
